Our Lady Help of Christians School
A Citadel of Hope
The Catholic Urban Schools Partnership, or CUSP, is dedicated to improving the educational experiences at nine inner-city Catholic grammar schools in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, by supporting improvement in the areas of academics, enrollment management and marketing, finance, technology, professional development and after-school programs. By working closely with the Schools Office of the Archdiocese, and the principals, faculty and staff at our nine schools, CUSP seeks to transform Catholic education and change lives by giving economically-disadvantaged children the superb education they deserve. Religious education is a major subject in all Archdiocesan schools. It is a graduation requirement and no student is exempt from taking this subject in any grade level. Formal Religion classes are not the only occasion for religious instruction. We also teach through liturgical celebration, daily prayer, as well as other types of religious programs designed to foster and exemplify the faith in our students. Caring for our brothers and sisters in need is a major concern and commitment through prayer and yearly long projects.

Our curriculum is the total sum of the school's effort to influence learning at home, in the classroom, on the playground, and in the community. Our Lady Help Of Christians School follow the curriculum guidelines of the Common Core State Standards. Our curriculum also includes an integration of Christian values, community service projects, and Total Sacrament's Preparation.
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With our students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
