Our Lady Help of Christians School

A Citadel of Hope

The Catholic Urban Schools Partnership, or CUSP, is dedicated to improving the educational experiences at nine inner-city Catholic grammar schools in the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ, by supporting improvement in the areas of academics, enrollment management and marketing, finance, technology, professional development and after-school programs. By working closely with the Schools Office of the Archdiocese, and the principals, faculty and staff at our nine schools, CUSP seeks to transform Catholic education and change lives by giving economically-disadvantaged children the superb education they deserve. O.L.H.C is proud to be one of the 9 school chosen for this initiative.

Religious education is a major subject in all Archdiocesan schools.  It is a graduation requirement and no student is exempt from taking this subject in any grade level. Formal Religion classes are not the only occasion for religious instruction. We also teach through liturgical celebration, daily prayer, as well as other types of religious programs designed to foster and exemplify the faith in our students. Caring for our brothers and sisters in need is a major concern and commitment through prayer and yearly long projects.

Caldwell College

Men's Basketball Team Volunteers

Caldwell University for a number of years has been putting the Catholic Dominican Mission into action by administering to a number of places especially in the local Caldwell/Essex County Area. Administrators, Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni are committed to service especially at OLHC! They come as tutors for our after school program, as carers of the earth, cleaners, painters, and window washers since the 1990's. They truly exemplify the good works of the Gospel message.

-OLHC says Thank YOU!

OLHC continues to offer a Summer School Program and Summer Day Camp designed…..

  • to motivate, stimulate, and enhance learning in the academic, spiritual, and physical development of each child entrusted to us.
  • to provide a structured whole language program to meet the basic needs of the individual, as well as daily work and tests for evaluation through teacher instruction and computer class.
  • to provide a safe “journey into learning” and fun for our youngsters in a safe environment with excellent supervision.
  • to provide classes for 6th and 7th graders to prepare for High School testing.
  • to integrate technology in the classes.
  • to incorporate state standards common core Math, English, and Reading methods.

Our program is one of review, preparation improvement and challenge giving students an opportunity for growth and developing skills for the Terra Nova Test, comprehension, writing concepts, problem solving, and Algebra skills.

Our curriculum is the total sum of the school's effort to influence learning at home, in the classroom, on the playground, and in the community. Our Lady Help Of Christians School follow the curriculum guidelines of the Common Core State Standards. Our curriculum also includes an integration of Christian values, community service projects, and Total Sacrament's Preparation.

The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With our students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
